Life Story for Lorena E. "Grandma Nagel" Nagel (Kono)

Lorena E. "Grandma Nagel"  Nagel (Kono)
Lorena E. Nagel “Grandma Nagel,” age 99, who resided with her daughter and son-in-law at 3818 S. Custer Street, Manitowoc, died Wednesday morning, March 13, 2013 at her residence and had a peaceful journey to Heaven surrounded by her family.

She was born on December 24, 1913 in Cleveland, Manitowoc County, daughter of the late Albert and Ida (Duebner) Kono. On Decmeber 12, 1931 she married Meinhold Nagel at St. John’s St. Peter Lutheran Church, Cleveland. He preceded her in death on September 6, 1969. Lorena farmed in the town of Liberty with her husband. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and also enjoyed dartball and bowling and was an active member of numerous card clubs. She looked forward to playing cards on Sunday with Elaine Sieker. Lorena was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, never missing a service.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law: Gladys Schumacher and her special friend Chuck Hertzler, Michigan, Marlene & Alan Sieker, rural Manitowoc; eight grandchildren: Pamela (Dean) Petersen, Debra (Daniel) Buck, Jodi (James) Krim, Mary Jo (Thomas) Lorenz, Michael (Toni) Schumacher, Dale Schumacher, Kathy (Darrell) Harris, Amy (Landon) Wilkes; 28 great grandchildren; 23 great great grandchildren; 16 great great great grandchildren; a sister-in-law: Irene Kono, Two Rivers; a step sister: Ella Grotegut, Cleveland; and a half sister: Angeline Hirsack, Missouri. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was also preceded in death by a son: Howard; a son-in-law: Arnold Schumacher; a brother: Lester Kono; a sister and brother-in-law: LaVerne & Milton Mott; a great granddaughter: Mandy Schumacher-Irish and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 p.m Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, town of Liberty. Officiating at the Service will be the Rev. Gregory Pope with burial at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery, town of Liberty.

The family will greet relatives and friends at Trinity Lutheran Church, town of Liberty, from 1:00 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2013 until 3:45 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Trinity Lutheran Church or Manitowoc Lutheran High School.


The family would like to extend a special thank you to Pastor Pope for all his visits with Grandma Nagel.
