Gwendolyn G. "Gwen"  Markowski
Gwendolyn “Gwen” G. Markowski, age 80, a Manitowoc resident, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at Rivers Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc after complications with diabetes.
She was born October 5, 1938 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Arthur and Myra (Kassner) Hansen. Gwen attended Manitowoc Lincoln High School, graduating with the class of 1957 and earned her nursing degree from Holy Family in 1960. On July 30, 1960 she married Ralph Markowski at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Gwen was a Registered Nurse at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center from 1960 until 1983. She then was employed as a homecare nurse until her retirement in 1992.
Survivors include her husband: Ralph Markowski, Manitowoc; one daughter and two sons-in-law: Kathy (Jon) Ahl, Branch, and Keith Duprey, Manitowoc; four grandchildren: Seth (Stephanie) Duprey, Manitowoc, Kirstin Duprey, Manitowoc, Devan Siehr, Branch, and Wyatt Siehr, Branch; two step-grandchildren: Kayla Schisel, Manitowoc, and Jared Ahl, Branch; two great-grandchildren: Monica and Xavier Duprey; one step-great-granddaughter: Aurelia Schisel; four sisters and four brothers-in-law: Sharon Peserik De Smidt and (Allen) De Smidt, Manitowoc, Evelyn (Marvin) Smallwood, Texas, Nancy (Jim) Cigler, Whitelaw, Caryn (Jerry) Nickels, Manitowoc; and one brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law: Ray (Millie) Markowski, Green Bay, and Marion Emond, Manitowoc. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She is further preceded in death by one daughter: Bonnie Duprey; one son: Terry Markowski; one step-grandson: Tyler Ahl; one brother: Art Hansen; and three brothers-in-law: Al Peserik, Jerry Markowski, and Aaron “Gene” Emond.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Julie Barger. Gwen will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 7, 2018 at Pfeffer Funeral Home, 928 South 14th Street, Manitowoc. The visitation will continue from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Saturday morning, December 8, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Manitowoc.
