Obituary for Lawrence John "Larry" Kaderabek

Lawrence John "Larry" Kaderabek
It is with great sadness that the family of Larry Kaderabek, announces his passing on Wednesday April 28, 2021, at the age of 75. Larry was born Lawrence John Kaderabek, son of Leonard and Shirley Kaderabek of Manitowoc, WI.

Larry lived life to its fullest. Here is just a short list of his life’s accomplishments and adventures. Here goes: Larry graduated high school at Salvatorian Seminary in St. Nazianz, Wisconsin, where he lettered in track and field. After high school he attended Lakeland College outside Sheboygan, graduating with a degree in Business Administration. There he joined a fraternity and made lifelong brothers, as he called them. (You know who you are.) At this time, he made money as a bouncer and he also managed a bar named The Red Door. Chess was one of his favorite pastimes. He became a champion chess player, a game he truly loved.

Larry briefly moved to Oklahoma City where he became a police officer. He was very proud of this time in his life. He decided to move back to Wisconsin and then settled in Green Bay, a city he cherished, (as well as the home of his beloved Packers). He proceeded to start a business called United Slab Jacking and worked it for many years. It was in Green Bay where he became involved in many organizations.

He became a proud Mason and made more life-long friends. He became a member of the Optimist Club, a perfect organization for Larry, for he was the eternal optimist in life and right up to his death. During this time, he joined the Make-a-Wish Foundation and helped terminally ill children experience their end life dreams. He was especially proud of his work there and was honored at a banquet for his participation. At the same time, he was asked to be Santa in the Christmas parades they held every year. He loved it and became Santa for his many young nieces and nephews.

In his spare time Larry ran a second, more entertaining business, as a DJ for his creation of The Baby Boomers, performing evenings for weddings and other such parties. He shared this fun part of his life with his best and special friend Diane. She was there at his side in all his endeavors being the perfect friend of more than 20 years. He and Diane loved to travel, too. They were able to visit Larry’s sister Karen on the island of Maui, Hawaii as well as Lake of the Ozarks with family, and many other travel experiences.

Like we said, he was full of adventure, swimming with the manatees, wrestling a bear at the county fair, or of a more serious danger, Larry was an underwater cave diver. Again, something he was very proud of. And, he always had lots of stories to share like his cave diving escapades in Mexico. I know I am leaving much out, but I have only read half of his memoir so far.

Larry spent the last years of his life enjoying his cabin lake house with Diane and their dogs in Phillip, Wisconsin. It was in Phillips he met many fine neighbors, but his heart was always with Patti and her husband Jim. It would have been ten years this September she unselfishly and generously donated one of her kidneys to Larry. We are forever grateful to her for she gave us 10 additional years with our brother.

Preceded in his death were his mother, Shirley and his special soul mate, Diane McCartney. He is survived by his father Leonard Kaderabek (96), sisters, Cherie (Ernie) Cvetezar, of Manitowoc, Mary (Jon) Aleckson, of Mount Horeb, Karen Kaderabek of Oahu, Hawaii, Denise (Bob) Weiler of Delafield, and brother Mark (Deb) Kaderabek of Cato. Also, many nieces and nephews and lots of close friends.

A private family Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in memory of Larry on May 5th at St Francis of Assisi on Waldo Boulevard (Holy Innocents).

We are also appreciative for the compassionate, kind, and tender care afforded Larry by all the doctors, nurses and staff from Marshfield Hospital and UW Hospital and Clinics.

Special note to Larry: Say hi to Mom for us and we will be with you again someday.
