Obituary for Randy R. Cherney

Randy R.  Cherney
Randy R. Cherney, age 64, a Manitowoc resident, passed away Tuesday evening, April 27, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born April 4, 1957 in Manitowoc, son of the late Joseph W. and Marguerite “Maggie” (Elfner) Cherney. Randy attended Lincoln High School, graduating with the class of 1976. On November 19, 1983, he married Cathy Sielski at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc. After high school, Randy held various jobs prior to his employment at Cher-Make Sausage, where he enjoyed a successful 41 year career as a salesman who took great pride in building relationships with his customers. Randy loved life and enjoyed Monday night pool league shooting for the Linebacker for 40+ years. Randy and Cathy shared a variety of interests and hobbies together. They spent time vacationing at various race tracks including NHRA at Nationals at Indianapolis, Indiana, NASCAR races at Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina, Texas Motor Speedway and Bristol International Raceway in Tennessee, as well as WIR races at 141 Speedway and Slinger. Randy’s interest in racing didn’t end there. He along with friends built a slot car track in his basement starting a Saturday night league of their own. Randy also loved music, particularly the Blues. They attended various concerts including: B.B. King, Bryan Lee, The Jimmy’s, Dave Mason, Joe Bonamassa, Ruthie Foster, John Mellencamp, Paul McCartney, Lionel Ritchie, with the highlight being Tina Turner. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing whenever possible. He loved spending time with his family and friends at his cabin on Clark Lake in Door County. Randy dedicated his life to his son, Matthew, his “little buck-o-dude.” He enjoyed taking Matt to Gamblers Hockey Games, concerts, horseback riding, pontoon boating on Clark Lake, and anywhere he knew Matt would be happy.

Survivors include his wife: Cathy Cherney, Manitowoc; his son/little buddy: Matthew Cherney; his siblings: Sharon Cisler, Denmark, Joyce (LeRoy) Novy, Manitowoc, Joan (Roger) Thielen, Marion, Joseph C. (Sheila) Cherney, Manitowoc; his in-laws: Joan Carey, Delaware, Jim Neuser, Manitowoc, Ronnie (Mary) Sielski, Two Rivers; two Goddaughters: Nicole Wolff, Bridget Froehlke; special nieces and nephews: Vicki & Steve Grant, Jim & C.J. Wirsching-Neuser, Dave & Katie Neuser, Lisa Duckart, Michelle & Mike Froehlke, Angela Neuser; close friends: Marty & Sue Lesnick, Scott Miller, Glenn & Tammy Boneske, Mike & Sue Holzer, Paul & Ruth Lukes, Larry & Lynne Cudahy, Eileen Slyfield, Jeff Lewandowski and Robin Mraz, Brian & Rosanne Bergene, J.R. & Beth Wagner, and Lisa Fuerbringer. Many nieces, nephews, other relative and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother-in-law: George Cisler; his in-laws: Judy Neuser, Dennis Sielski, Bob Carey; his mother-in-law and father-in-law: Leila & Claude Sielski; nieces and nephews: Donald Cisler, Timmy Thielen, Tina Gaffey, Bobby Carey, Tim Duckart; and special friends: Dennis Slyfield, Mitch Prowls and Mike Neuser.

Cremation has taken place at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc, and funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) on Friday, May 7, 2021 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, 1121 N. 14th Street, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Revs. Jose Lopez and Ben Johnson with entombment of Randy’s cremated remains to take place at the columbarium at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Pfeffer Funeral Home, 928 South 14th Street, Manitowoc. A prayer service will take place at 6:30 p.m. The visitation will continue on Friday at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, Manitowoc, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m.
