Irene A. Ihlenfeld, age 81, of 1206 S. 15th Street Manitowoc, died on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Aurora Medical Center, Manitowoc County.
Irene was born on August 20, 1931 in Newton, daughter of the late Edward Paul and Helen Rose (Bonin) Kortas. She married V. Mann Ihlenfeld in September of 1964 in Manitowoc. V. Mann preceded her in death on July 3, 1985. Irene was employed in her younger years at Kresge’s and The Maine Café, Manitowoc. She then went on to raise her six children. Irene was a member of the Manitowoc County Humane Society, Lincoln Park Zoological Society and loved spending time in the Wisconsin Dells and Fischer’s Creek. She also loved feeding the wildlife in her yard; squirrels, rabbits, blue jays and cardinals.
She is survived by her four children: Randal Meisner, Manitowoc, Mary Meisner, Manitowoc, Thomas Ihlenfeld, Rantoul, IL and Sally Ihlenfeld, Milwaukee; five grandchildren: Randy Ihlenfeld, Tommy Ihlenfeld, Kati Hinds, Kara (Jared) Schmidt and Kaylynn (Alfonso) DeJesus; two great grandsons: Koleton and Miguel; and one aunt: Evelyn Mayer, Sheboygan Falls. She is further survived by her two companions: Lil Buddy and Blue and other relatives and friends. Irene was also preceded in death by her two sons: Jon and Timothy Ihlenfeld. “She did the best she could with what she was given.”
Cremation has taken place at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc. A memorial service for Irene will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Friday, March 22, 2013 at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Dr. James Klein with burial of her cremated remains at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc at a later date.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, March 22, 2013 from 12:30 P.M. until 1:30 P.M. at the Pfeffer Funeral Home.
