Obituary for Wendy Ann Ulmer (Hansen)

Wendy Ann Ulmer (Hansen)
Wendy Ann Hansen Ulmer was tragically lost to us on March 21st.She was born in Manitowoc to Arik and Audrey Hansen. Wendy lost her Mother Audrey when she was five. She and her Dad Arik were best buddies doing everything together. Wendy’s spiritual faith was introduced by her mother and supported by her Aunt Carol who took on the interim role of mother figure until Shirley, her new Mom joined the family followed by her brothers Chris and Adam. Wendy’s family owned “Hansen the Florist”, a third generation greenhouse started in 1902.Wendy and her brothers worked there throughout the years doing whatever her Strasburg Co was Grandma and Grandpa needed.Transplanting, watering, designing flower arrangements, and making deliveries with Grandpa Hansen. Grandpa would load up the flowers for delivery with the grandkids in tow and treat them to an Orange Crush and potato chips. Many happy hours were spent at the greenhouse. From an early age Wendy showed the beginnings of her inner domestic goddess by assisting in some of the meal preparation as Shirley was busy working at the Nuclear power plant, Arik at the greenhouse and local Firehouse. Her affection for Disney started early, Mickey was her favorite as he had true genuine spirit; on the level of a kindred spirit for Wendy. The family enjoyed many a trip to Disney; an experience she shared with her niece Kaylie and nephew Ben. The family also enjoyed the love of football both watching on TV and as Season ticket holders for the Green Bay Packers.
Wendy’s attention turned to school which she excelled at. She attended Roncalli High School where she was involved in many activities: 4H, Girl Scouts, Basketball and Marching Band. As a member of the marching band she played the trumpet, tuba, and the mellophone which she enjoyed playing the most. The Marching band had the opportunity to travel to Switzerland where she found a deep zest for the culture. Switzerland was on her travel bucket list and she hoped to travel there one day with her husband Ben. During this time she also branched into the working world by working at Hardees; where she rose quickly and became a shift manager.
After Graduation she entered Viterbo College in LaCrosse WI. During her college years she worked for the Company Store. She graduated with a Degree in Business Management. She began her career in St. Paul at Us West. Wendy again rose through the ranks quickly and was promoted to a position with the training department. In the training department is where she found her love of the education of others. Us West led to many opportunities, one of which was a position in Arizona.
Wendy enjoyed a wonderful road trip to Arizona with Arik and her cat buddy. Wendy purchased her first house which had a swimming pool and palm trees a nice oasis for her favorite cat Kelly, which joined her family.
The next move with Qwest brought her to Denver where she became a training supervisor. During this time she pursued and obtained her master’s degree in business. With the reorganization of Qwest and market turn; Wendy found what she considered home. Working in the training department at UC health Denver. Wendy again rose through the ranks becoming a trainer, training supervisor, and ultimately the IT Manager of Training Delivery.
While in Denver Wendy found the love of her life Ben. Wendy and Ben enjoyed Camping, Bowling fishing, four wheeling and of course the love of football and her new adopted team The Denver Broncos. Another activity they enjoyed was hiking. It was during a hike in Thermopolis Wyoming surrounded by nature and after five years of dating Ben popped the question, Wendy left him hanging for about two seconds and said yes. Ben sealed the deal by giving Wendy a pull tab ring. Ben and Wendy were married on New Year’s Eve in Toledo Ohio. Wendy made sure to include her nieces Kaylie and Emily along with her nephews Ben and Riley in the ceremony. This union added to Wendy’s circle of love by adding her new siblings Nick and Jenn. Wendy’s Wisconsin family and Ben’s Ohio family celebrated this joyous event and rang in the New Year. Ben and Wendy found each other later in life but packed their days with fun. This included their chickens, Nibbles the duck, and finally their Dog Mina; who had become one of the greatest road trip buddies.
Wendy made every occasion a party which included picture worthy culinary delights and signature beverages. Wendy had the ability to meet a person and make them feel as if they had a friend for life. Wendy never burned a bridge and built a few along the way as was evident by the out pouring of affection for Wendy during all of the events of her life.
Wendy is survived by her Husband Ben Ulmer Strasburg, CO; Mother and Father Arik and Shirley Hansen Two Rivers, WI; Brothers Christian (Lori) Hansen Oshkosh, WI; Adam (Rebecca) Hansen Warrensburg, MO; Mother In-law Mardy Ulmer, Brother In law Nick (Jenn); nieces Kaylie, Emily, and nephews Ben and Riley; Aunts and Uncles: Lawrence Jr (Carol) Hansen; Jeff (Kaaren) Peterson; Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Cherney; Russell (Sue) Cherney, Mark (Marua) Cherney; Howard (Bonnie) Hardrath; Dean (Polly) Hardrath, Leroy (Connie) Hardrath.
