Obituary for Jean A. McDonnell

Jean A. McDonnell, age 96 a Manitowoc resident, passed away on Friday morning, December 11, 2020 at Maritime Gardens, Manitowoc.

Jean was born on July 12, 1924 in Hart, MI, daughter of the late Rudolph and Katherine (Gagnon) Stockinger. She was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School with the class of 1942. On February 15, 1947 she married Arnold J. McDonnell at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on March 27, 2009. Jean and her husband owned and operated McDonnell’s Grocery on N. 7th Street for many years until they sold the business in 1979. She also worked for Cher-Make Sausage for over 25 years.

Survivors include two sons: Daniel S. McDonnell, Manitowoc, Rev. Timothy J. McDonnell, Vienna, Austria; three sisters-in-law: Fran McDonnell, Manitowoc, Mary Lettenberger, Port Washington, Nancy McDonnell, Manitowoc. Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was also preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers-in-law: Lorretta Stockinger, Rita Stockinger (who died in infancy), Marion and Thomas Keery, Helen and Charles Heise, Ruth and Gerald Ward; one brother and sister-in-law: Rudolph and Pearl Stockinger; and six brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law: Earl and Viola McDonnell, Harold McDonnell, James McDonnell, Peter McDonnell (who died in infancy), Kenneth McDonnell, Lawrence (Pat) and Dell McDonnell.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Whitelaw. Officiating at the Requiem Mass will be her son, the Rev. Timothy McDonnell with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Whitelaw, from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM.
