Obituary for Marshall F. Hein

Marshall  F.   Hein
Marshall F. Hein, age 92 of Manitowoc, passed away on Friday afternoon, December 25, 2020 surrounded by his family at his residence under the care of Holy Family Memorial Hospice.



Marshall was born September 2, 1928 in Manitowoc, son of the late Mathias C. and Odelia (Trost) Hein. He grew up in Manitowoc and attended local schools. On November 12, 1949, Marshall was married to the former Joyce A. Harmon at St. Luke Catholic Church in Two Rivers. The couple made their home in Manitowoc and she preceded him in death on August 6, 2003.



After high school, Marshall pursued the plumbing trade and became a master plumber and co-owner of Hein Plumbing in Manitowoc. He came from a family of serious sheepshead players and later on he enjoyed a good game of cribbage. Marshall was famous for his “fried chicken” which he made outside on the grill 75 to 80 pieces at a time to serve for parties. His backyard was a garden of fruits and vegetables in which he would share with friends, neighbors and relatives. He was a former member and usher of St. Boniface Catholic Church and an honorable member of St. Boniface Athletic Club. Marshall is a current member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish. Throughout the years Marshall played many sports including baseball, basketball, bowling, dart ball and golf. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. Marshall was member of Kenny’s Athletic Club and umpired in the summer for Kenny’s tournament. He also volunteered for the Meals on Wheels program and at the Manitowoc Health Care Center.



Survivors include his four children: Gary (Patty) Hein, Two Rivers; Marsha (Keith “Buzz”) Buvid, Newton; Pam (Ray “Butch”) Fanslau, Two Rivers; Sally Hein, Manitowoc; six grandchildren: Darren Buvid, Brian Buvid, Melody Fanslau (special friend Craig Butgereit), Marshall Fanslau (special friend Melanie Scherer), Mandy Hein (special friend Shar Keagle), and Alex Hein; two great grandchildren: Brielle and Lyrik; his two cats: Mittens and Chessie. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents: Mathias and Odelia Hein; his wife: Joyce Hein; eleven brothers: Philip, Nick, Bill, Clarence, Matt, Anton, Peter, Leonard, Joseph, Walter and Frederich Hein; four sisters: Margaret Popp, Irene Gadzinski, Mary Jane Mecca and Catherine Sieracki.



Cremation has taken place at the All Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 4, 2021 at St. Francis of Assisi (1416 Grand Avenue, Manitowoc). The Rev. Doug LeCaptain will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial of his cremated remains in the spring at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Manitowoc. The family will greet relatives and friends on Monday, January 4, 2021 at the church from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, face masks will be required and please practice social distancing.
