Obituary for William T. Jagemann

William T. Jagemann
William T. Jagemann, age 95, a lifelong Manitowoc County resident, died January 22, 2021 surrounded by his family at a Hospice Center near his winter residence in Juno Beach, Florida. Bill had a long history of heart and kidney disease and as he told us all, “I think I’ve outlived my body”. But he never let it slow him down. Just last year, at 94 he drove his motor home out to Colorado to see the grandchildren and great grandchildren. His family was always his greatest joy in life.

The family will greet relatives and friends on January 30, 2021 from 9:30am to 10:45am at St. Francis of Assisi, Manitowoc. Social distancing will be followed and masks required.
Following Mass there will be a private family service at Knollwood and no luncheon due to Covid. The family is planning a celebration of Bill’s life later this summer.
Bill was born September 26, 1925 in Manitowoc Rapids, WI, son of the late William P. and Ethel I. (Naumann) Jagemann. Bill attended St. Paul Catholic School and Lincoln High School.
He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the 13th Armored Division during World War II in the European Theatre under the command of General George Patton from 1943 until being honorably discharged in April 1946. He drove a half track vehicle in the war and had the honor of driving one again on his birthday several years ago. The owner of it told him they were tricky to shift and Bill hopped right up and drove it around the property without a hitch, and at top speed. The owner only shook his head and said,” It’s obvious you’ve driven one of these before”. He impressed us all. Bill was very proud of his service and 10 years ago drove to Washington DC to see the WWII memorial.
On September 11, 1948 he married the former Frances Wick at St. Boniface Church, Manitowoc. She preceded him in death on March 11, 2004. He later married the former Nancy Scheer on January 26, 2008 at St. Francis on Waldo. They had a wonderful 13 years of travel and adventures.
Bill joined his father at Jagemann Stamping Company in 1949, two years after its founding. He provided vision, leadership, and unselfish dedication to the Company and its employees for 72 years, serving as Vice President, President, and Chairman Emeritus. Under his guidance, he helped build a company that would not have existed without him.
As the second-generation leader of Jagemann Stamping Company, he led the company into the age of automation with the first transfer press which is now proudly displayed in the lobby of the company. The introduction of transfer press technology revolutionized the company’s metal working technology in the production of the company’s main product, hose ferrules.
He taught everyone to treat people in the company as a family and was dedicated to the well-being of his employees, customers, and suppliers. This was personified in his core belief of, “We are all in this together”.
Bill instilled in everyone he worked with a legacy of excellence in all they do. He set a high standard as personified in the “Jagemann Way”, a dedication to excellence, innovation and fair treatment of all involved.
For 35 years it was a special honor for him to distribute the William P. Jagemann Scholarship to children of our employees, and to have his picture taken with them.
He will be missed, but he left us with a strong foundation and culture that will carry the company on to the 4th generation at Jagemann Stamping Company.
Bill was also very active in his community. He was a member of the Manitowoc Elks, a charter member of the Monaco Travelers Club, a 50-year charter member and past president of the Lakeshore Snowmobile Club, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 710 and a charter member of the Sunrise Rotary Club. In 2003 he received the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow Award from the Rotary Club for his work and commitment to the less fortunate in his community and around the world.
He was proud to be a team member of his son’s “Pit Crew” during TJ’s racing career. He made many a lap carrying the checkered flag around the track in TJ’s race car, and he especially enjoyed the races at Road America. Bill loved all forms of racing and fast cars. Really dear to him was his Dodge Durango SRT with a 475hp Hemi engine that he just bought last year. He never lost the little kid in him with a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face.
