Obituary for Sister Thereselle Arruda
Sister Thereselle Arruda, age 90, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, died Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at St. Peter Convent, Bapchule, Arizona.
She was born April 27, 1930 in Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii, daughter of the late Tsuneo Nicholas and Mary (Arruda) Nitta. The former Evangeline Arruda entered the convent in 1956 and professed her vows in 1958. Sister Thereselle earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Holy Family College, Manitowoc, Wisconsin. She ministered as a teacher at St. Paul, Manitowoc, Wisconsin; St. Theresa, Kehaka, Hawaii; St. Mary, Delaware, Ohio; and St. Catherine, Topawa; St. John, Komatke and St. Peter, Bapchule, all in Arizona, and as a Pre-K teacher aide at St. Peter, Bapchule.
Sister Thereselle is survived by the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; five brothers and four sisters-in-law: Kenneth (Thelma) Nitta, Roland Nitta, Allen (Natalie) Nitta, Mitchell (Nieves) Nitta and Wilson (Ruth) Nitta; one sister: Lily Kakamoto, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Tsuneo Nicholas and Mary (Arruda) Nitta, and brother-in-law Francis Sakamoto.
